Engagement Party

Party time!

Although we got engaged on 12 April, we can’t set a date for the wedding yet, so in the meantime we cordially invite you to celebrate our engagement with us on 8 August at Dai’s parents’ house, near Abergavenny, Wales.

We know most of you don’t live nearby, but we really hope you will be able to come. We’re very happy for people to arrive from 2pm onwards so do come over to Wales and make a weekend of it.

What’s happening?

Well, it’s a chance to come see us, spend time with old friends, meet some of our other friends you may not know yet and generally have a good party. Any excuse, and this is a good one!

After a drunken pact made by Charlie at University, this party will feature a bouncy castle. We plan to have it until 8pm so show up early if you want to play! It is suspected there may be late night Twister and other games too depending on what people want to do.

Food/drink

We’ll be having a barbeque and salad/buffet, plus plenty of beer, wine and spirits. We do ask that you bring some alcoholic beverages and mixers too to make sure there’s enough for all. (There is an off-licence in the village well within walking distance if necessary.) Food-wise, if you fancy making a dessert (fresh fruit salad especially welcome) or side dish do bring it along, but there will be plenty of food. Vegetarians will be well catered for (with the hostess being vegan) so don’t worry about barbeques or bringing veggie burgers.

Accommodation

Miss Moore and Mr Cheek have the bed in the front room. Any other persons occupying this will be forcibly removed by the hostess (who has been working out). Everyone else should bring bedding: sleeping bags, pillows or whatever, and tents if you like. There will be some space in tents available on a first-some-first serve basis, and some lawn at the back and front of the house for your own tent if necessary. There is also a limited supply of air mattresses which will be made available for guests and plenty of floor space. Staying up all night is possibly an option too, although Charlie’s never made it yet.

Music

We have a home server loaded with several hundred hours of music which should keep us going but we’d like to encourage live musical interludes if any guests feel up to it. Meanwhile, Charlie put together a Spotify playlist (see link on right) of some appropriate music we both like to get you in the mood!

Who will be there?

Our favourite people! Obviously we will be, we hope you will be, and so will Dai’s immediate family (mum Sue, dad Bob and siblings Megan and Hywel). Seeing as they live here we figured it was only polite to let them come along. Bob has put great efforts into getting the garden ready for the party so any compliments on the garden or lushness of the lawn are most welcome, and should be directed to him.

How to get here

There is a Google map on the sidebar with links to places where you can get directions and train times.

If you come by car there will be parking available (please let us know so we can organise car parking), but if you are able to come by train we will have you picked up from the station as long as you let us know which train you are on. We can drop people back at the station the next day too. We’ll make a good breakfast in the morning and won’t be throwing everyone out too early so feel free to relax and leave whenever you are ready.
